Rehabilitation means; To restore to useful life, as through therapy and
education or To restore to good condition, operation, or capacity. The
assumption of rehabilitation is that people are not natively criminal
and that it is possible to restore a criminal to a useful life, to a
life in which they contribute to themselves and to society. Rather than
punishing the harm out of a criminal, rehabilitation would seek, by
means of education or therapy, to bring a criminal into a more normal
state of mind, or into an attitude which would be helpful to society,
rather than be harmful to society. - Wikipedia at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehabilitation_%28penology%29 Amy Sample Ward

Transcendental Meditation and Offender Rehabilitation: A New Approach to Crime Prevention
"In September 2003, the Journal of Offender Rehabilitation devoted all four issues of its annual publication to a special volume entitled “Transcendental Meditation in Criminal Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention” (J Offender Rehab 36 (1-4), 2003). This special volume presents a wide range of research showing that the practice of Transcendental Meditation can significantly reduce crime, criminal aggression, violence, recidivism, terrorism, and even international conflict, while simultaneously developing higher levels of psychological functioning—higher states of consciousness—in TM practitioners."
