YouTube's Nonprofit Program: Youtube has a special partnership program for nonprofit organizations.
"The Basics
- Reach Out. Post videos that get YouTube viewers talking, and then stay in the conversation with comments and video responses.
- Partner Up. Find other organizations on YouTube who complement your mission, and work together to promote each other.
- Keep It Fresh. Put up new videos regularly and keep them short—ideally under 5 minutes.
- Spread Your Message. Share links and the embed code for your videos with supporters so they can help get the word out."

YouTube’s Game-Changing New Feature for Nonprofits by Michael Hoffman | Thursday, September 10th, 2009
A few months ago YouTube announced that organizations that are in the YouTube Nonprofit Program would be able to use the overlay advertising feature to create donation links. They call the feature “Call To Action” and said that in their first test of this, Charity:Water raised $10,000 in one day.

Open Source Video Sharing Platforms
Web based video editing
Web based video editing sites generally offer the "user generated video sharing" website in addition to some form of editing application. Some of these applications simply allow the user to crop a video into a smaller clip. Other services have invested much time and effort into replicating the same functionality that has previously only been available via Windows Movie Maker, iMovie and other client-side applications that run outside of a web page. Some of these applications are based in AJAX and others in Flash. Some websites also offer downloadable editors but they will not be listed here due to the number of pre-existing video editors.

Session Notes
I really liked this VIDEO session, and I learned a lot.
At first I was a little intimidated by the whole idea of making a video, and so I was glad to hear that we didn't have to be making videos all of the time!
Highlights
- You can have a 30 second version of your video, especially helpful with media outreach
- You can have a 2 minute version of your video for your blog
- AND a 5 minute version at an event
Youtube's nonprofit program allows you to use Google Checkout, for FREE through 2008!
You can geotag your video to use with Google Earth to bring attention to locality
You can upload your video, not just on youtube/google video and yahoo video, but also on Dogooder tv : http://www.dogooder.tv and Our Media: http://www.ourmedia.org.
And if you have a stellar powerpoint, you can use this to make a video too!
One of the most exciting things that I learned was about the Flip Video Spotlight Foundation: http://www.flipvideospotlight.com, that is giving away a million videocameras over five years, starting this December (2007)!
YAY!!!!
An example of video embedded in a website (that I played with yesterday) is here: http://www.cwsor.org/photo_gallery.htm
For making a video, you can use tv footage of an interview with someone from your nonprofit, also, you can go to Portland Community Media: http://www.pcmtv.org and get featured on their "Face to Face Community Matters" program, which is what we did, and you can also get volunteers to make a video for you. So many ideas! By Mazarine Treyz: mailto:writer@melisander.org
Thanks Mazarine! I added/edited a couple lines of yours :)
Additional Points
You do not have to "host" or otherwise store your videos on your organization's server or whomever hosts your organization's site. YouTube takes the video file burden for you.
As far as video editing goes... YouTube allows you to "remix" or edit your movie (for free) after you have uploaded it. You can also go with any number of free web-based tools including (but not limited to, do a search and you will get many):
